I have read through the Week 1 TEEP slides [TOE Way/TOE Business Vaues: IDEATION], and comment as follows:

Ideation is a product of thinking. Any who thinks will generate ideas. Anyone who does great thinking will generate great ideas. Anyone who has a brain can initiate the next big thing through ideation.

Everyone may not have the opportunity to fly in a jet but everyone has the opportunity to think and generate great ideas. An idea can become extraordinary through complementary inputs and efforts. Idea is not good enough, and great ideas have no benefit until they are implemented successfully.

The successful implementation of great ideas is the most rewarding thing on earth.

I have again read the Week 2 slides of [TOE Way/TOE Business Values: CREATIVITY], and I make the following submission:

For an entrepreneur, creativity is the art and the act of creating [making, producing] new things that solve problems, are acceptable to the society, are quantifiable in financial terms, and can create commercial value.

The components of creativity include:

Expertise [mastery of a particular area of knowledge and skill],

Creativity skill [non-conventional thought pattern for instituting out-of-the-box processes, to implement unusual projects, for setting new records and getting extraordinary results.

Task motivation [passion for doing what it takes to solve any problem].

Creative solutions make the most sense when they get to the market when they are most needed and are most valued.

Innovation and creativity complement each other. Innovation is of two types namely sustaining innovation and disruptive innovation. Sustaining innovation is applied for improving existing products while disruptive innovation changes industry approach through complete turn-around methods.

After perusing the Week 3 slides of [TOE Way/TOE Business Values: SYNDICATING VIEW and MANAGEMENT BY CONSENSUS, I have the following submissions to make.

Listening is a data collection skill.

Listening is not equal to consent.

Anyone who listens carefully will have access to great ideas.

An idea is incomplete when it is 100% sourced from one person. Ideas developed from a variety of views is stronger and better.

Ideas are not limited by experience, exposure, or education. The best of ideas may not come from the most educated person, or from the most exposed person or from the most experienced person.

Management By Consensus [MBC] means that a decision or an idea is sourced from a variety of views, which allows for for the best inputs to be factored into the final direction. With MBC, the majority does not carry the vote, rather, the majority and the minority have equal chances of being heard and considered based on merit and value of views and submissions, possibly by objective ranking.

MBC is a tool for Integrated Decision Making [IDM]. MBC encourages team members participation and commitment to a common cause.

Consensus does not mean “everyone agrees”, it rather means “everyone is willing and ready to go in the agreed direction”.

I have read the slides for the 4th Week of the TOE Way/TOE Business Values: METICULOUS, and I learnt the following lessons.

Meticulous means “nothing is insignificant!”

Anything that is necessary should be done at best. What is worth doing at all is worth doing well.

Preparation and planning are important to being meticulous.

Being meticulous could be compared to the precision of a jet pilot or the exactitude of a surgeon.

Being meticulous involves thoroughness, diligence, extreme care, and skill. Being meticulous involves thoroughness for obtaining data, diligence for refining the data, carefulness for processing the data, and skill for using the data.

Being meticulous applies to every aspect of business, with special attention to financial processes, systems and data.

Meticulous attention must be given to every aspect of the business from day one, and financial data must be adequate and accurate from day one.

Being meticulous helps businesses to create good financial history and good business antecedent.

Being meticulous involves professional record keeping and notes taking, detailed data collection, and thorough archiving.

Being meticulous involves reading relevant books and applying lessons learnt to improve performance.

Entrepreneurs can increase learning through reading.

Increased learning increases confidence.

Confidence is an important component of excellence.

TOE Way/TOE Business Values: Strong Branding Focus [Week 5 Commentary].
Creating a brand is like planting a fruit tree that has commercial value. This venture requires a lot of work with specific goals in mind. Cultivating the tree will take several years, but cutting it down will take just a few minutes.

We know a mango tree by the fruit it produces. How else could branding be defined and explained? People will only call you what you call yourself. Every individual is a brand; corporate or nor-corporate. Branding is a full time business.

As a matter of fact, if you are an entrepreneur, branding is your business; your business is branding. If there is no branding, there is no business.

Good HR practices contribute significantly to Brand Equity.

Use HR systems that motivate employees for high performances.

Set clear performance goals.

One wrong hire will set your business on a destructive fire.

TOE Way/TOE Business Values: Institutionalization and Corporate Governance [Week 7 Commentary].

Good Institutionalization and strong corporate governance contribute significantly to Brand Equity.

Corporate governance is the true democratization of organizational controlling and directing powers.

Corporate governance allows every decision making organ within an organization to have a measure of power that is backed by clearly documented rules and regulations, and the power could only be used only in the best interest of the owners of the organization.

Corporate governance involves strong organizational policy frameworks and strict compliance at all levels.

Establishing trans-generational organizations requires the implementation of strong institutionalization and strong corporate governance. The pillars of strong institutionalization include;

1. Formalization
This involves clearly documented guidelines and procedures.

2. Professionalism
This involves building a team that is made up of experts (professionals). It allows your team to have a crop of people who have similar and complementary thought patterns. Entrepreneurs need to attract people who have similar mind-set paradigms. Entrepreneurs who outperform their peers engage talents who operate on A+ frequency.

3. Cultural Strength
This refers to organizational cohesion.

4. Accountability. Every team member must truly be in charge of their respective portfolios, and they must provide on-demand reports that are enhanced by transparent project/policy implementation and feedback systems.

5. Consistency
This refers to uniformity. Policies implementation and feedback system must be uniform across board with positive improvements as the organization grows.

TOE Way/TOE Business Values: Hard work, Effective Meetings, and Productivity [Week 8 Commentary].

For a business to be successful, hard work must be a strong integral part of the behaviours and characteristics of every member of your team (organization).

Based on the 10,000 hours requirement for expertise, using a fair calculation of 6-hour work per day including Mondays to Fridays only, which gives us 260 working days per year, at minimum, any serious person needs an estimated 6 years and 5 months, to become an expert in the relevant field of human endeavour.

Encourage the members of your team to become experts on their jobs.

Clear goals plus hard work produces excellence and high productivity.

Set clear excellence goals.

Set clear productivity goals.

Productive meetings contribute significantly to business success.

Successful entrepreneurs set clear meeting goals.

Successful entrepreneurs plan their meetings ahead.

Successful entrepreneurs make their meetings interesting and motivating for full participation by all attendees.

Empathy is of utmost importance for successful business meetings.

Appropriate leadership style makes business meetings to be highly productive.

Create ambient meeting venues.

Set priorities

Include motivation in your tasks and assignments.

Set realistic deadlines.

Be disciplined.
